historytoday.comHistory TodayA monthly magazine first published in January 1951, dreamed up by Brendan Bracken and named after Churchill's reply to his remark that they'd 'made history today'. The site carries an archive of almost every article since.

projecteuler.netProject Euler — Problem Archives997 maths problems designed to be solved by writing code, running since 2001 and still publishing new ones. The archive lists how many people cracked each: 860,391 have done problem 1, and the count thins fast from there.

labex.ioLinux JourneyCindy Quach's free Linux course from 2015, now kept alive by LabEx after linuxjourney.com stopped resolving. Lessons climb from Grasshopper through Journeyman to Networking Nomad, with a real Ubuntu terminal in the browser to try them in.

todayhappened.comToday Happened — A single page of what happened on this date, newest year first, every entry linking straight to Wikipedia. No ads, no images, just arrows to step a day forward or back — Krakatoa, the Morris Mini-Minor and the Battle of Crécy sharing one column.

smbc-comics.comSaturday Morning Breakfast CerealZach Weinersmith's daily strip, mostly one long panel on science, economics or religion delivered by badly-drawn people. The hovertext is half the joke — a Star Wars strip this week signs off with 'Later he returns as Darth Flation.'

buttersafe.comButtersafe — Raynato Castro and Alex Culang have been alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays since 2007, on strips that start ordinary and quietly stop being so. Their own about page promises only that each comic 'will have pictures and probably some words'.

myanimelist.netSakamoto Days (Parts 1 & 2) — 8/10 — The greatest hitman alive retires, marries, gets fat and opens a corner shop — then the old world comes for him anyway. TMS make the fights genuinely inventive with shop-shelf props, and it was Netflix's most-watched anime worldwide in the first half of 2025.
